Weekly Wants #17

Here are all the bath products I'm lusting over.  When I say lusting, I mean really lusting, as I've pretty much given up my weekly bath in an attempt to conserve water in oh-so hot and dry Southern California.

1. Zoella Fizz Bar.  Sold on the packaging alone, it looks like a candy bar! Plus the idea is great as you can get multiple uses out of just one product.

2. Lush Comforter.  I rarely buy Lush bubble bars but Vivianna Does Makeup says she loves it so I've got to try it.

3. The Bathory Custom Bath Soak.  I would love to have a jar of these to display in bathroom, the packaging is super sleek and very instagramable.  Plus, completely customizable products are always fun.

4. Neal's Yard Lavander Bath Salts. Bath salts are fairly foreign to me, I just don't usually gravitate towards them.  However, I do gravitate towards relaxing, help you go to sleep products, so I may need to check these out.

Top Autumn Makeup Products

Autumn (or fall depending on what you call it) is my favorite time of year.  I love cooler weather, layering outfits, spicy candles, delicious foods and of course berry hued makeup.  Although I have many favorite makeup items for this time of the year, I tend to use these select products most.

1. MAC Frankly Scarlett - more red toned than berry and highly pigmented.  The smallest bit goes a long way.  It works great with other berry toned products and doesn't look over the top.

2. MAC Cranberry - the best berry/red toned eyeshadow ever.  I tend to sweep this all over the lid, add the tiniest bit of a light, light brown to a blending brush and blend the edges until there is no visibly eyeshadow line.  A great way to change up the brown/bronze eye look I usually go for.

3. MAC Capricious - when I don't want a full on berry lip, but still want the dark fall look, I reach for this lipstick as it is more muted than most autumn shades.  As with all MAC lipsticks, the formula is really good and can either be dapped on for a subtle look or swept over the lips for something more dramatic.

4. MAC Plumful - a purchase influenced by Essiebutton and Lily Pebbles.  This is my favorite MAC shade - tied with syrup - and I wear it a ton.  The pinkness in the lipstick makes this berry shade extremely wearable especially during the day.

5. NARS Sin - i can't believe I haven't hit pan on this blush, in fact it barely looks used.  But I swear it is my favorite blush of all time.  At first the berry/shimmery color looks off putting, but it is a great sheer, but build-able color, that gets rid of the dreaded dull look.

6. Hourglass Aura Sheer Cheek Stain - the only berry stain I have, which I reserve days when I have a few extra minutes to apply my makeup.  The product itself is high quality, pigmented and lasts for quite a few hours.

Birchbox X Benefit Santa Monica

This past week instead of being a granny and watching TV in my pajamas, I put on some makeup and heels and went to the Birchbox and Benefit event in Santa Monica.  The ambience was great: tons of pink, champagne, mini cupcakes and lots of talk of skincare and makeup. Everyone was treated to a demonstration of the They're Real Push Up Liner plus tips and tricks for applying, which I loved as liquid liner is something I've always struggled with, an eyebrow wax and a custom makeup application.

Of course there was plenty of shopping involved; everyone was given a $35 credit for purchasing a ticket but I spent more than that, clearly.  I'm due to run out of my Maybelline Brow Drama fairly soon so I purchased the Benefit Gimme Brow to replace it.  I hope it has longer lasting power than the brow drama.  Because I love blush, and you can never have too many, I picked up two blush products.  First, I had to get the Majorette blush because it is a gorgeous pinky peach color, unlike anything I own, it has a cream to powder formula and it smells amazing.  But before I even knew any of that, I had my mind set on picking it up purely based on the name... I spent many of my childhood years baton twirling.  The second blush item I picked up was from Benefit's Christmas Collection.  The Cheeky Sweet Spot has 5 blush shades, a bronzer, a mini highlighter and a mini brush.  Although I own two of the colors in the collection already, I love miniature sizes and it was an affordable way to try out the rest of the blushes.

Since it was a Birchbox event, we were also sent home with a Birchbox made especially for the event with all Benefit products.  It included mini sample sizes of It's Potent Eye Cream, Porefessional, Highbeam and Posiebalm.  I'm most excited about trying the eye cream in the adorable little glass pot.

Weekly Wants #16

1. Madewell et Sezane Nola Satchel. Just browsing the Madewell site and this beauty popped up.   Slightly more relaxed than I usually go for but a classic shape none the less.

2. But First Tea Print.  The best way to start the day is with a cup of tea.  Too often I'm in a hurry and forget to make tea but if I had this print I would always remember.

3. SS Print Shop Wonder Print.  My to be completed gallery wall colors are gold and pink and I've been searching for a print with a photo and not just words.  This fits the bill exactly and is so beautiful.

4. Paris Is Always A Good Idea Pencils. Random and unnecessary, yet super cute.

How To Make Boring Beauty Tasks Fun

Cleaning Makeup Brushes. Everyone knows that cleaning makeup brushes is a seriously boring, time consuming task.  To get through it, I set up my iPad near my bathroom sink and watch an episode of whatever I am binge watching on Netflix at the time.   Hour long shows work well for me since it usually takes me an hour to clean all my brushes when I don't clean them on a regular basis (which is usually how it goes).  Recommendations: Scandal, Call the Midwife, Sons of Anarchy.

At Home Manicure/Pedicure. I love a good mani/pedi at the salon but in an attempt to save money I almost always paint my own nails.  Although you can incorporate nails into a pamper routine, I don't find it very relaxing.  Instead I like to have a mani/pedi party.  Nothing major, just a drink, dessert, and chatting with friends or my mom.  Just be sure that while chatting and gossiping away you don't get distracted and end up with a messy manicure.

Cleaning Makeup Containers. I don't know about you, but I find after repeated daily use the packaging of makeup I use tends to look a little grubby, with fingerprints and smudges all over. Every so often I have to take a paper towel or wipe to any products looking a little rough and make them shiny and pretty again.  Because this doesn't take too long, I first pop on a face mask geared toward whatever my skin needs on the day.  Mostly likely everything will be clean and back to new before it is time to take the face mask off.

Organizing Makeup/Skincare Collection. I recently reorganized my makeup, not changing up the storage too much but making sure everything fits right where it should.  Prior to organizing I watched several YouTube videos for inspiration.  When it came time to organize, I put those exact same videos on, which is helpful as background noise as well as reminding me of any ideas I want to incorporate into my storage.

Empties and More Empties

1. Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Facial Wipes.  I'm not one for facial wipes; I tend to use them only for flights, emergencies and the occasional lazy late night.  Like other wipes, these really didn't remove much makeup and they irritated my eyes.

2. Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cream.  This is a great, light, almost non-scented moisturizer.  I used this as night moisturizer, but would happily use it twice a day.  I'm tempted to repurchase but I am interested in trying her nourish daily moisturizer next.

3. Elemental Herbology Bio-Cellular Super Cleanse.  Marketed toward oily, acne, combination skin, I hoped to use this to improve the small, ever present, spots/bumps on my jaw line.  While I didn't see an improvement in that area, this cleanser left my skin feeling very clean without stripping it.  The scent is absolutely wonderful and I just loved using this after taking off my makeup.

4. Boots Botanics Super Serum Age Defense. In hopes of preventing lines and aging on my neck and d├ęcolletage, I used as the final step in my skincare routine (when I remembered to).  I can't tell if it has made any difference but hopefully down the road I will.

1. Jo Malone Red Roses Cologne.  Rose scent, gorgeous packaging, luxurious but not long lasting on the skin.

2. Tory Burch Eau de Perfume.  Smells exactly like a Tory Burch store!  This isn't enough of a classic scent for me to purchase the full size version, but I did enjoy using this sample.

3. Folle de Joie Eau de Perfume.  Somewhat spicy and somewhat floral, this is more my type of scent.  It is bold but still delicate and romantic and great for any time of the year.

4. Lather Custom Oil. Although this blend was meant to help with headaches, I used this before bed in hopes of sleeping better.  Didn't really work but the scent was nice.

5. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation. This foundation lasted me a good two years before it ran dry.  This was my go to foundation for normal to good skin days.  It gives a healthy glow to the skin, feels weightless and blends seamlessly.  I did find it clings to dry patches on occasion though.

6. L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Heavenly Berry. I can't say enough good things about this lip balm.  Not only is it super easy to apply, it actually has color payoff and is incredibly moisturizing.  The perfect throw in your bag lip product.

1. Lather Therapeutic Bath Tonic.  I made this to smell like Christmas and did it ever!  It sadly didn't last too many baths but I loved it.

2. Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant.  Natural but expensive.  Doesn't do anything special, so I am perfectly fine with using regular deodorant from Target.  However, if you are into natural products then it would be a good one to pick up.

3. Naobay Body Radiance Lotion.  Awkward scent, tacky in application, average moisture.  Although it is natural, it made my skin itch.

4. gla Himalayan Salt and Rose Water Replenishing Body Cleanser. Another fantastic smelling rose product.  I randomly saw this in HomeGoods one day and had to pick it up.  Probably my favorite shower gel for getting that super clean feeling.

5. Harvey Prince Ageless Liquid Loofah.  This sample was fairly tiny and I was disappointed that it only lasted a few washes.  It wasn't exfoliating, as it claims, but the scent is really nice and not something I would normally pick up.

6. Fresh Brown Sugar Body Cream.  My thoughts on this are exactly the same as my thoughts on the Naobay product.  Maybe the Naobay is a dupe for the Fresh version?

Weekly Wants: Lip Products

1. NARS Audacious Lipstick.  No clue what color I want, but the bolds really stand out.  I don't know how NARS does it but the products just keep getting better and better.

2. Maybelline Color Drama Lipstick.  Why, oh why, do products come out in the UK and not in the US?  I noticed recently Maybelline Brow Drama is out in the US and I swear it was released in the UK well over a year ago... maybe approaching two?  I fear we will be waiting for these for just as long.

3. Lipcote Lipstick Sealer.  Browsing the lip section on Feelunique and this popped up.  Inexpensive and sounds impressive.

4. Dior Creme de Rose.  I've never purchased this or By Terry Baume de Rose because they are basically overpriced mineral oil.  One day I will cave.

Room Decor: Gallery Wall

Since May, when I painted and bought new furniture, my bedroom walls have been blank and lately it really started to bother me.  However, being extremely picky and indecisive, I couldn't figure out exactly what I wanted to do.  I knew I wanted some sort of gallery but I needed inspiration and even after countless pinterest pages I still couldn't find that something I was looking for.  That all changed last week when I saw a post on Lauren Elizabeth's blog.  It basically spoke to me... it was exactly what I was envisioning in my head.  Of course I want mine to be different, but it was just what I needed to see to get rolling.

I headed straight to HomeGoods to have a look around.  In the end I only found one piece there - a large square framed inspirational print in gold text, the exact color I was looking for.  At $16 it was a bargain too.  I plan on dipping the frame in gold to make it look less generic.  Next, I knew I wanted to incorporate The Beatles into the mix and luckily found a great black-and-white postcard in my travel mementos stash that I bought in London years ago.  Instead of framing it, I bought big gold paper clips at Target which I will attach to the wall with a screw.  Lastly, in search of more prints I browsed Etsy for well over an hour until I found this awesome Blair Waldorf quote that I knew I had to get - the color schemed worked and Blair was always my favorite on Gossip Girl (As I write this post and look at the photos I've noticed that Waldorf is not spelled correctly on the print. Time to email the Etsy seller!)

I still have more bits and pieces to pick up, do some customization, and of course put everything up on the wall, but it's a start!

Weekly Wants #15

1. J. Crew Rectangle Gem Necklace in Light Blue.  This looks more iridescent than light blue in person, which is why I was so drawn to it when I first spotted it.  Hoping J. Crew has a jewelry sale soon!

2. Tom Ford - Anything.  Because that packaging is gorgeous.

3. Charlotte Tilbury Sculpt & Highlight.  Another product with awesome packaging, however this one could fill a void in my makeup collection because a great highlighter is hard to find.

4. The Limited Scandal Collection Tulip Skirt Sheath Dress.  I discovered Scandal on Netflix over the summer and I am completely addicted.  My daily wardrobe is much more laid back, but I would love to have a wardrobe like Olivia Pope's.
